
Burdwan, August 16, 2025: In a stirring celebration of India’s 78th Independence Day, Dalmia Cement (Bharat) Limited (DCBL) paid homage to the courage and sacrifice of armed forces veterans through its special initiative, ‘Saluting 78’. The tribute honoured 78 war veterans and ex-servicemen from Bihar, Odisha, West Bengal, and Jharkhand—recognising them as living symbols of resilience, patriotism, and nation-building.
In West Bengal, 21 veterans were felicitated, including distinguished naval officer Vice Admiral Bimalendu Guha, PVSM, AVSM, IN (Retd). His stellar leadership during pivotal operations, notably the 1971 Bangladesh Liberation War, was celebrated as a shining testament to the state’s enduring contribution to India’s defence and maritime strength.
Each honoured veteran received a plaque, a trophy, a shawl, the Indian National Flag, and a commemorative album featuring all 78 veterans. The heartfelt ceremony saw enthusiastic participation from citizens, schoolchildren, community leaders, and eminent guests, transforming the occasion into a collective celebration of India’s brave hearts.

As part of the initiative, Dalmia Cement also restored 78 flag podiums across schools and public spaces in India, ensuring the tricolour continues to inspire future generations with pride and patriotism.
