West Bengal Extends Summer Vacation in Government Schools

Kolkata, May 8, 2025 — The Government of West Bengal has announced an extension of the ongoing summer vacation for all government and government-aided schools in the state. According to a memo issued today by the School Education Department, schools will now remain closed until May 31, 2025. This decision comes in light of the prevailing situation and applies to primary, upper primary, secondary, and higher secondary schools, including those in the Hill subdivisions of Darjeeling and Kalimpong.

Originally, primary schools were scheduled to reopen on May 13 and secondary schools on May 24. With the extension in place, all institutions will now reopen on Monday, June 2, 2025.

The extension aims to ensure student and staff well-being and has been approved by the competent authority.
