New Delhi, March 8, 2026: On the occasion of International Women’s Day, G. Kishan Reddy, Union Minister of Coal and Mines, extended his warm greetings to women employees of Coal India Limited, acknowledging their growing contribution to India’s mining and energy sectors.
In his message, the minister highlighted this year’s global theme, “Rights. Equality. Empowerment – For All Women and Girls,” noting that meaningful progress depends on fairness, equal opportunities, and enabling systems that allow women to succeed.
Referring to the vision of Narendra Modi, Prime Minister of India, of transitioning from women’s development to women-led development, he said the coal and mines sector is steadily expanding opportunities for women across technical, operational and leadership roles through targeted training and skill-development initiatives.
According to the minister, Coal India Limited has strengthened its commitment to gender inclusion by increasing women’s participation in technical and frontline roles, reinforcing POSH mechanisms, improving workplace facilities, and enhancing maternity as well as childcare support systems. Leadership development initiatives have also been introduced to empower women employees across the organisation.
He noted that the rising presence of women in supervisory and operational roles represents a significant transformation in the traditionally male-dominated coal sector, breaking long-standing barriers and reflecting growing confidence in their capabilities.
Emphasising the importance of women’s contributions, Reddy stated that the continued success of Coal India Limited is closely linked to the professionalism, resilience and excellence demonstrated by its women workforce. As India moves toward the vision of Viksit Bharat, he added, the leadership and participation of women will remain vital in building a more innovative, inclusive and sustainable mining industry.
Reaffirming the government’s commitment on this occasion, the minister said efforts will continue to ensure dignity, safety and equal opportunities for every woman in the organisation.
