In a significant move aimed at enhancing transparency, efficiency, and fair pricing in agricultural marketing, the West Bengal government-backed initiative ‘Sufal Bangla’ was formally inaugurated on Tuesday. The programme seeks to create a sustainable balance between the interests of farmers and consumers by strengthening direct market linkages and reducing the role of intermediaries.
The inauguration ceremony, held under the guidance and patronage of the Government of West Bengal, was officially launched by State Minister Agriculture Marketing, Becha Ram. The event was attended by several senior dignitaries, including cabinet Minister, Arup Biswas, State Minister Biplab Roy Chowdhury, Secretary, Fisheries Department, Roshan Sen, Secretary Omkar Singh Meena, and Inspector Abdul Salam (Raj), among others.
Addressing the gathering, Marketing Minister Becha Ram described Sufal Bangla as one of the state government’s most impactful initiatives in the agricultural sector. He stated that the programme is designed to ensure that farmers receive fair and remunerative prices for their produce, while consumers gain access to high-quality agricultural commodities at affordable rates. Emphasising transparency, he noted that the initiative would promote direct interaction between farmers and buyers, thereby curbing the influence of middlemen and strengthening trust within the supply chain.
State Minister Arup Biswas underlined the wider economic significance of the initiative, stating that Sufal Bangla would not only strengthen the agricultural ecosystem but also give a substantial boost to the rural economy. He added that empowering farmers through structured market access is vital for achieving inclusive and sustainable growth.

Other speakers also highlighted the relevance of the initiative, terming it a timely and necessary reform in the agricultural marketing system. They expressed confidence that Sufal Bangla would usher in a positive, transparent, and lasting transformation in the marketing and distribution of agricultural produce across West Bengal.
The programme concluded with an appeal to the public to actively engage with and support government initiatives like Sufal Bangla, encouraging collective participation to ensure the long-term success and sustainability of this farmer-centric model.
