Saroj Gupta Cancer Centre to Observe World Cancer Day 2026 with Survivor-Centric Programme in Kolkata

Kolkata, February 4, 2026:
Saroj Gupta Cancer Centre & Research Institute (SGCCRI), Thakurpukur, will observe World Cancer Day 2026 with a commemorative programme on Tuesday, February 4, at 1:30 pm at the SGCCRI Auditorium. The event aims to reinforce awareness, prevention, and equitable access to cancer care, in alignment with the global mission led by the Union for International Cancer Control (UICC).

World Cancer Day, observed globally on 4 February, serves as a platform to unite communities in the fight against cancer. The global theme for 2025–2027, “United by Unique,” places people at the centre of care, recognising individual cancer journeys and advocating inclusive, patient-centric treatment approaches.

Founded in 1973 by Dr. Saroj Gupta, SGCCRI is one of eastern India’s leading philanthropic cancer care institutions, dedicated to providing comprehensive and affordable oncology services, particularly for the underprivileged. Over the decades, the institute has expanded from a 25-bedded welfare home into a 311-bedded comprehensive cancer centre, reflecting its sustained commitment to inclusive healthcare. Notably, 20 per cent of indoor beds are offered free of cost, while 50 per cent of admitted patients belong to the general category.

The World Cancer Day programme will feature a vocal performance by Smt. Sreeradha Bandhyapadhya, screening of the short film “Heal in Harmony,” directed by Smt. Jaysree Mukherjee, along with cultural performances by children undergoing cancer treatment and cancer survivors. An interactive session with survivors will also be held, highlighting resilience, hope, and shared strength.
