The Child in Need Institute (CINI), in collaboration with the Press Club, Kolkata, conducted a workshop on “Media Sensitisation on Child Safeguarding” to engage journalists, digital content creators, and social media influencers in promoting ethical reporting and reinforcing child protection measures.
The programme, held at the Press Club premises, underscored the critical role of the media in ensuring children’s rights are safeguarded and responsibly represented in public discourse.
Dr. Snehasish Sur, President of Press Club Kolkata, briefed participants on the essential dos and don’ts for media professionals while reporting on child-related issues. Among the dignitaries present were Dr. Indrani Bhattacharyya, CEO of CINI; Dr. Nilanjana Dagupta, IAS (Retd) and CINI Governing Body Member; Sri Kingshik Pramanik, Secretary of Press Club Kolkata; along with professors, news editors, and child rights experts.
Addressing the gathering, Dr. Samir Narayan Chaudhuri, Founder Director of CINI, stated, “For over five decades, CINI has been working to protect children and empower vulnerable families. Our partnership with the media is crucial in amplifying voices that often go unheard. This workshop reaffirms our commitment to child safeguarding and inspires collective action for a safer tomorrow.”
The workshop concluded with an interactive session, emphasising that safeguarding children is not only an institutional priority but also a shared societal responsibility.
To mark the occasion, CINI launched a special publication titled ‘Akash Chhoan Matir Golper Sangkolon’, published by Virasat Art Publication. The book compiles inspiring stories from CINI’s 50-year journey, showcasing resilience within vulnerable communities and highlighting the transformative impact of sustained interventions in health, nutrition, education, and child protection.
