Emergencies don’t come with a warning. They strike unexpectedly, often leaving people feeling helpless—especially when a loved one suddenly falls ill in the middle of the night. In such critical moments, every second counts, and the need for immediate, advanced medical care becomes paramount. The very word “emergency” signifies a race against time. To raise awareness about the importance of timely medical intervention, World Emergency Day is observed every year on May 27.
Recognizing the urgency of such situations, B.P. Poddar Hospital in New Alipore organized a seminar on Tuesday to mark the occasion. The event highlighted the hospital’s preparedness to provide emergency care 24/7—whether it’s noon or midnight.
Through live presentations and videos, the hospital demonstrated how critical care can begin even before the patient reaches the hospital. Special focus was given to pre-hospital care, including initiating treatment inside the ambulance itself. From outlining the necessary infrastructure within ambulances to detailing the roles of emergency responders, the sessions aimed to make the entire emergency process more efficient and accessible.
