Kolkata, 14 November 2025: In a landmark development for veterinary education in the state, JIS Group has announced the launch of West Bengal’s first private veterinary institution — JIS College of Veterinary & Animal Sciences (JISCOVAS) — at Mogra, Hooghly. Sprawling across a 30-acre integrated campus, JISCOVAS will offer a five-and-a-half-year Bachelor of Veterinary Science and Animal Husbandry (B.V.Sc. & A.H.) programme, including a one-year compulsory internship stipulated by the Veterinary Council of India (VCI). The college is affiliated to the West Bengal University of Animal & Fishery Sciences (WBUAFS) and recognised by the VCI, with an annual intake capacity of 80 students.

Admissions will be based on NEET qualification. General category candidates must secure at least 50% marks in Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and English at the 10+2 level, with applicable relaxations for reserved categories. Eligible candidates must be between 18 and 25 years of age. Separate hostel facilities for boys and girls are available. International applicants may also apply in accordance with VCI regulations.

State-of-the-Art Campus Facilities
The institution houses a fully equipped Veterinary Hospital and dedicated farms. The hospital offers comprehensive treatment facilities for both large and small animals and includes radiology units, diagnostic laboratories, OPD and IPD services, and an Intensive Care Unit (ICU). Specialised Operation Theatres support surgery, orthopaedics, gynaecology, dentistry, ophthalmology, and also include a dedicated Isolation Ward for infectious disease management.

A unique feature of the campus is its ‘Fodderland’, a designated tract of land used exclusively for fodder cultivation, ensuring a steady and nutritious feed supply for livestock on campus.

Speaking at the launch, Sardar Taranjit Singh, Managing Director, JIS Group, said, “The establishment of JISCOVAS is not just about creating a new college; it is about shaping the future of veterinary sciences in West Bengal and beyond. Our vision is to build a world-class institution that blends tradition with innovation, equips students with global competencies, and contributes to nation-building by addressing the growing challenges in animal healthcare.
