India is set to take a strong leap on the global karate stage as the All India Budo Shotokan Karate Association (AIBSKA) – Japan Shotokan Karate Association (JSKA) HQ India unveiled the national squad for the upcoming JSKA World Championship 2025. The championship will take place at the prestigious Ehime Prefectural Budokkan in Matsuyama, Japan, from November 1–3, 2025.

The announcement came during a press conference at Press Club Kolkata, led by Shihan Tirthankar Nandy (7th Dan, Japan), Founder and Director of AIBSKA-JSKA India, alongside top instructors, athletes, and dignitaries from the sports fraternity.

Shihan Nandy revealed that this year’s world championship will witness participation from over 34 nations across six continents, making it one of the most competitive editions ever. “For nearly two decades, AIBSKA has carried India’s karate spirit across continents. Competing in the birthplace of karate is truly monumental. Our athletes represent passion, discipline, and the dream of seeing the Indian flag rise on the world stage,” he said.

AIBSKA-JSKA India has consistently represented the nation in world championships across South America, Europe, and Asia — promoting the core values of traditional karate-do while nurturing young talents from grassroots levels.

The Indian squad for Japan features an impressive lineup of accomplished medalists, including:

  • Rupsa Gupta – Double Silver Medallist, JSKA St. Petersburg 2018
  • Sensei Samir Singh – FSKA World Champion 2024
  • Saptarshi Mukherjee – IKAA World Championship (Argentina) & JSKA World Championship (UK) medallist
  • Sanjay Kumar Subba – National Champion
  • Shuvendu Dev – International Kata Medallist, Alipurduar
  • Abhijit Sutradhar – National Champion, Cooch Behar
  • Promising talents Bompu Karlo, Shreya Gogoi, Sri Kumaran Senthil Kumar, and Samridh Agarwal

In a unique representation of cultural unity, Sellathurai Ganeshalingam, a 70+ year-old Indian-origin instructor from the UK, will also join the team—symbolizing AIBSKA’s global spirit and legacy.

With a mix of seasoned champions and rising stars, Team India is eyeing a historic performance as they prepare to take on the world’s best in Japan — the very land where karate was born.
