Kolkata, 13th November 2025: The city witnessed a heartwarming initiative aimed at promoting awareness and inclusion with the inauguration of the 2nd Autism Convention Kolkata 2025 — a pioneering, parent-led event that is redefining conversations around autism and neurodiversity. Themed “By the Parents, for the Parents,” the convention celebrated courage, compassion, and collaboration, showcasing the remarkable resilience of parents who have transformed personal challenges into a mission to foster acceptance and inclusivity for individuals with autism.
The event was graced by dignitaries including Upali Roy Nee Mukherjee, Director and Ex-Officio Special Secretary, Directorate of Mass Education Extension and State Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities, Government of West Bengal; Bedanga Biswas, Joint Secretary, Women and Child Development and Social Welfare Department; Ms. Merry Barua, Founder Director, Action for Autism; and Dr. Jai Ranjan Ram, Consultant Psychiatrist. The inauguration brought together key voices dedicated to promoting empathy, inclusion, and equal opportunities for individuals on the autism spectrum.
Speaking at the event, Upali Roy Nee Mukherjee said, “The Autism Convention marks an important step toward greater awareness and inclusion. When parents and professionals come together with shared understanding and purpose, it leads to real change. Efforts like this remind us that every individual with autism deserves equal respect, opportunity, and a sense of belonging in society.”
Dr. Rudrajit Sinha, Laparoscopic Surgeon and Organising Secretary of Autism Convention Kolkata 2025, added, “Understanding autism goes beyond awareness — it calls for compassion, patience, and inclusion in every sphere of life. The Autism Convention is a wonderful example of how collaboration between parents, professionals, and advocates can create real impact. Together, we can build a community that not only accepts neurodiversity but also celebrates it.”
The three-day national event focuses on spreading awareness, understanding, and empathy for individuals with autism. Moving beyond the traditional medical approach, the convention advocates for a social model that emphasizes community parenting and the creation of an autism-friendly Kolkata. Rather than centering solely on therapy or academics, it promotes a holistic, lifelong, and solution-oriented approach that empowers autism families through every stage of their journey.
The inauguration concluded on an emotional and inspiring note as parents, experts, and advocates united in their shared vision of a more inclusive world. What made the occasion truly special was its core philosophy — by the parents, for the parents — reflecting lived experiences and heartfelt determination. The event symbolized connection, courage, and hope, reaffirming that inclusion begins with empathy and grows through collective action.
The 2nd Autism Convention Kolkata 2025 thus marked not only the beginning of an event but the continuation of a movement — one striving for a world where every individual on the autism spectrum can live with dignity, confidence, and pride.
