Historic Initiative by Calcutta High Court Mediation Committee

In a landmark move aimed at reducing the mounting backlog of cases, the Calcutta High Court Mediation Committee organized a certificate distribution ceremony for trained mediators on Wednesday evening at the High Court auditorium. The event was presided over by Chief Justice T.S. Sivagnanam and was attended by other eminent justices including Justice Soumen Sen (Chairman of the Mediation Committee), Justice Arijit Banerjee, Justice Subhra Ghosh, and Justice Madhuresh Prasad.

Certificates were awarded to both “Advocate Mediators” and “Non-Advocate Mediators” under the coordination of Committee Member Secretary Sudip Bandopadhyay. Among the recipients was legal journalist and General Secretary of Kumud Sahitya Mela Committee, Molla Jasimuddin, who received his certificate from the Chief Justice and other justices.

Dr. Subhashis Muhuri, Deputy Registrar (Legal) of the High Court’s Original Side and the Officer-in-Charge of the Mediation Committee, stated, “To reduce the backlog of pending cases, the Mediation and Conciliation Committee of the Calcutta High Court has appointed mediators in various courts across the state.”
