Kolkata: Florence, a sustainability-driven community initiative, successfully organized a large-scale Afforestation Drive at Lions Safari Park, Rabindra Sarobar Lake, reinforcing its commitment to environmental protection under the United Nations Global Compact and the Sustainable Development Goal: Protect the Environment.
The event witnessed the presence of dignitaries from the Lake Authorities, members of the Rotary community, and renowned environmentalist Mr. S. M. Ghosh, whose guidance added immense value to the initiative. Senior representatives of Lions Club North Kolkata—including Chairman Mr. Ashok Mehta, Secretary Mr. S. S. Rajput, and Ex–Vice President Mr. Mohan Agarwal—also graced the occasion.
Focused on rebuilding ecological balance and enhancing urban green cover, volunteers actively planted saplings across designated zones in the park. The initiative emphasized the multiple benefits of afforestation—from improved air quality, biodiversity enhancement, and pollution reduction to long-term climate resilience.
Beyond environmental restoration, the drive highlighted the profound relationship between green spaces and mental wellbeing. Participants were reminded that nature heals holistically—trees not only nurture the planet but also offer emotional balance, reduce stress, and foster peace of mind. Planting a sapling thus becomes an act of environmental stewardship and personal transformation.
