Kolkata, June 28: In a significant boost to women’s grassroots cricket, Himalaya Wellness, in collaboration with the RCB Women’s Team, has selected 10-year-old Rupmani Ray from Kolkata as one of the 100 recipients of the prestigious 1derWoman Cricket Scholarship Programme. The initiative aims to empower young girls by providing financial assistance, mentorship, and structured cricket training opportunities.
For Rupmani, cricket is much more than a game—it is a promise to fulfil her late father’s dream of seeing her represent India. After losing her father during the COVID-19 pandemic, the young cricketer has continued to pursue her passion despite personal and financial challenges. Her selection for the scholarship marks an important milestone in her journey, offering support for coaching, training, and cricket equipment.
The 1derWoman Project, a digital-first initiative by Himalaya Wellness, has been designed for girls aged 10 to 15 years. Developed in partnership with the RCB Women’s Team, the programme combines cricket coaching, mentorship, confidence-building, and personal development, ensuring that aspiring cricketers receive both technical guidance and life skills to pursue their sporting ambitions.
Speaking on the initiative, Rajesh Krishnamurthy, Business Director – Consumer Products Division, Himalaya Wellness, said the scholarships represent belief in the potential of young athletes and are intended to create real opportunities for girls aspiring to excel in cricket. Ragini Hariharan, Marketing Director – Beauty & Personal Care, added that the programme aims to transform inspiration into meaningful participation by giving talented young girls access to learning and mentorship.
Expressing her gratitude, Rupmani Ray said that being a “1derWoman” means remaining strong and hopeful despite life’s challenges. She said the scholarship has strengthened her determination to excel in both academics and cricket while working towards a brighter future for her family.
The 1derWoman Cricket Scholarship Programme has selected 100 young cricketers from across India, reflecting Himalaya Wellness’ commitment to encouraging women’s participation in sports by creating accessible pathways for talent, confidence, and long-term development.
