Kolkata, December 9, 2025: St. Xavier’s University, Kolkata (SXUK), under the leadership of Rev. Dr. John Felix Raj, is set for a landmark phase of institutional growth as the university prepares to host its 7th Convocation Ceremony on February 21, 2026, at the Biswa Bangla Convention Centre, New Town.
Rev. Dr. Arturo Sosa, S.J., Superior General of the Jesuits based in Rome, has consented to grace the ceremony as Chief Guest. West Bengal Governor Dr. C.V. Ananda Bose, the Hon’ble Visitor of the university, is also expected to attend.
Since its inception in 2017, SXUK has rapidly evolved into one of the fastest-growing Jesuit universities in India. A second major academic building—equipped with next-generation classrooms, modern laboratories, a library, and a moot court—is nearing completion. The university has already invested nearly ₹550 crore in infrastructure, including a new state-of-the-art auditorium with a seating capacity of 2,000, and two auxiliary auditoriums accommodating 600 and 300 persons.
A new MDP Block featuring 75 rooms, including premium suites for VIPs, is underway. To enhance student fitness and sporting culture, SXUK also plans to construct two swimming pools and provide professional training for aquatic sports.
In a significant academic expansion, SXUK will introduce B.Tech and M.Tech programmes starting 2026. Upcoming offerings also include Integrated MBA, Integrated B.Ed., School of Design, School of Nursing, and a full-fledged medical college—positioning the university as a comprehensive institution spanning multiple disciplines.
The Executive MBA programme continues to attract strong corporate participation. Additionally, proposals are being finalized for an Executive MBA in blended mode and a specialized MBA in Hospital Management to address growing national demand for skilled healthcare administrators.
SXUK is preparing for NAAC accreditation under the revised assessment system in 2026. The university has initiated extensive documentation as per updated NAAC criteria and recently completed its 6th NAAC seminar. A thorough Academic and Administrative Audit in November 2025 provided expert recommendations ahead of the upcoming evaluation.
Championing next-generation learning, SXUK has adopted an AI-powered Learning Management System, becoming the first university in Eastern India to integrate such advanced digital pedagogy. The platform, implemented in association with UK-based Shiksak, simplifies assignment management, online assessments, and content delivery—ensuring improved academic outcomes and greater student engagement.
Aligned with its ambitious Vision 2030—which targets 10,000 enrolments—the university will soon introduce a wide array of certificate and diploma programmes designed for working professionals and lifelong learners aiming to upgrade their skills and knowledge.
With dynamic leadership, rapid infrastructure development, and a strong focus on innovation and social commitment, St. Xavier’s University, Kolkata continues to strengthen its position as a premier institution of higher education—shaping future-ready citizens with values rooted in Jesuit excellence.
