Sarbani Ganguly Unveils Album: A Poignant Tribute to Womanhood, Memory, and Timeless Emotion

Celebrated author Sarbani Ganguly, whose literary journey began as a child artist with All India Radio, has released her latest book, Album—a moving collection of four fictional stories that delve into the emotional landscapes of womanhood, memory, and identity.

With a creative foundation shaped by early collaborations with renowned storytellers such as Partho Ghosh and Gauri Ghosh, and radio adaptations of the works of Bibhutibhushan Bandyopadhyay and Rabindranath Thakur, Sarbani Ganguly has developed a distinctive narrative voice. A student of History, she draws deep inspiration from literary icon Ashapurna Devi, evident in her empathetic portrayal of women’s lives across changing social realities. Her short stories, published in leading magazines over the years, have earned appreciation for their depth and authenticity.

A Collection Rooted in Emotion and Experience

Album brings together four evocative stories that explore the varied shades of womanhood across traditional and modern settings. Each narrative reflects the inner journeys of love, loss, rediscovery, and the enduring power of memory.

The collection includes:

  • Prothom Jiboner Bhalobasha – Tracing the emotional voyage of Tomosha through innocence, strength, and rediscovery. This timeless story of love and resilience is soon to be adapted into a feature film titled Naina.
  • Album – A haunting tale of Samantha Rodrigues, whose love story begins a century ago during a pandemic. Exploring themes of time, memory, and transcendence, the story examines how true love survives across eras—even beyond mortality.
  • Thikana – A tender narrative set in the misty hills where Sanjukta and a soldier are bound by a lost address and unfulfilled promises. The story beautifully portrays longing, remembrance, and the enduring tenderness of love.
  • 1960 – Set in old Kolkata, this story follows Dr. Nikumbha Sarkar, a physician whose life becomes intertwined with mysterious and miraculous events that blur the line between science and faith. Rich in nostalgia, the narrative brings alive an era when miracles felt within reach.

A Voice That Resonates Across Generations

With Album, Sarbani Ganguly brings to life stories that are both deeply personal and universally relatable, reflecting the layered realities of women navigating love, identity, and the passage of time. The collection celebrates vulnerability, strength, and the silent endurance that defines womanhood across generations.
