West Bengal today took centre stage on the national sports map with the grand commencement of the 54th Senior Men’s National Handball Championship 2025 at the Netaji Subhas Sports Arena, Priyonagar, Chinsurah. The prestigious six-day championship will continue till December 20, 2025, bringing together India’s finest handball talent in a high-octane showcase of skill, strategy, and sporting excellence.
The championship is being organised by the West Bengal State Handball Association in collaboration with Techno India Group, under the aegis of the Handball Association India. With state-of-the-art infrastructure and an enthusiastic sporting atmosphere, Chinsurah is hosting one of the most significant handball events in the country.
A total of four championship-standard courts have been prepared at the venue. Teams from States, Union Territories, Services, and Boards have been divided into eight pools, with the top two teams from each pool advancing to the pre-quarterfinals, followed by knockout rounds.
High Stakes, National & International Pathways
The tournament carries immense importance, as the top eight teams will secure qualification for the upcoming National Games in Meghalaya, while standout performances will also be considered for Asian Games team selection, making the championship a crucial platform for elite athletes.

Asit Majumdar, MLA, Chinsura, said the event marked a proud moment for the region and congratulated Techno India Group for launching its sports university with a tournament of national stature.
Echoing similar sentiments, Ram Chakraborty, Mayor of Chandernagore, and Tapan Dasgupta, MLA, Saptagram, hailed the championship as a milestone for regional sports development.
Soumitra Ghosh, Chairman, Chinsura Municipality, wished the players success and applauded Techno India Group’s continued contribution to sports infrastructure.
