IPL 2025 Match Relocated from Dharamshala to Ahmedabad Amid Security Concerns Following Operation Sindoor

Kolkata _May 8, 2025

Following India’s airstrike on terrorist camps in Pakistan under Operation Sindoor, the security situation in the region has become tense, prompting significant changes to the IPL 2025 schedule.

The IPL match between Punjab Kings (PBKS) and Mumbai Indians (MI), originally scheduled for May 11 (Sunday) at Dharamshala, has been relocated to Ahmedabad. The move comes after India’s defense systems thwarted retaliatory attempts from Pakistan, raising concerns about the safety of players and spectators.

The Dharamshala airport has been shut down temporarily, and surrounding airspaces, including Chandigarh, have also suspended flight operations. As a result, the BCCI decided to shift the venue to avoid logistical complications and potential risks, especially since players would have had to travel by road in a high-alert zone.

Gujarat Cricket Association Secretary Anil Patel confirmed the relocation, stating that the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad will now host the crucial PBKS vs MI match. Meanwhile, Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals face added difficulties, as both teams have to travel long distances by road due to the airport closures, affecting their preparation and rest schedules.

The situation underscores the broader impact of geopolitical tensions on international sports events, with even foreign players in Pakistan’s PSL reportedly considering early exits amid the unrest.
