Mukundapur, 19 June, 2025: In a remarkable medical breakthrough, a 63-year-old man with a life-threatening heart condition has made a full recovery after undergoing a marathon 15-hour surgery at Narayana RN Tagore Hospital, Mukundapur. The procedure, described as one of the most complex in recent memory, successfully addressed a massive aneurysm and critical coronary blockage both tackled in a single operation.
The patient, who had no prior major health issues, was rushed to the emergency room with severe chest pain. Upon diagnosis, doctors found an extensive aneurysm stretching from the chest to the abdomen, internal arterial tears, and signs of restricted blood flow to the heart. Due to the severity and location of the damage, conventional treatment options were ruled out.
A multidisciplinary team led by Dr. Atanu Saha, Senior Consultant Cardiac Surgery, conducted the high-risk surgery, which included aortic valve replacement, reconstruction of the ascending aorta and arch, and coronary artery bypass grafting—all in one procedure.
“This was among the most challenging surgeries we’ve undertaken,” said Dr. Saha. “The risk of complications like stroke or paralysis was high due to the involvement of major arteries, but with meticulous planning and team coordination, we ensured a safe outcome.”
The patient’s recovery was equally impressive. He was taken off life support within 24 hours, began mobilization early, and was discharged in stable condition just
